Christian Siriano wins day one of New York Fashion Week with a collection inspired by the rich cultures of Africa, India, and China. He may be a “Project Runway” kid, but – at twenty-four years old – he has all the fashion editors in the bag.
There were the ruffles we know he loves thrown on everything that wasn’t business chic, but my pick was a dramatic strapless buff evening dress with a sparkling embellished belt and huge billowing tulle ruffles reminiscent of the best Monique Lhuillier wedding gowns. The finale dress obviously the icing on the cake with volume, balloon hems, and gargantuan, asymmetrically draped tulle clouds with rough raw edges.
We also saw new heels from his Payless collection of dramatic and towering cutout heels constructed of wood (some pieces shaped like chopsticks!) and embellished with faux snakeskin print and shiny red metallics.
