Excuse me while I pour a glass of Veuve Clicquot and cheers it with my next glass, but I feel like waxing lyrical about lingerie. It seems that while I have treated most after-effects of 50 Shades of Grey like a bullett to the head (because ‘Shades’ is to literature what Pop Tarts are to gourmet food), the book has done great things for the lingerie industry.
Earlier this week I previewed the Spring/Summer 2013 collections from five luxury independent lingerie brands (Playful Promises, Maison Close, What Katie Did, Kiss me Deadly and Paolita) and fell in lust with the variety of styles and creativity they are able to retail in comparison to previous years. Maison Close – who’s most risque and expensive collection, Belle de Nuit, happens to be their best seller – have become a real champion for body suits and underwear as fashion pieces of their own while Playful Promises have built a flirty and extensive collection of beautiful pieces that extend all the way into womenswear. While What Katie Did are the one-stop-shop for corsets, Kiss me Deadly have the vintage thing down to an art, and Paolita know swimwear like the back of their hand, each brand has something for everyone.
I can’t wait to see how the industry continues to develop.
