Over the past month, I’ve had the opportunity to interview both an amazing new band and an empowered TV legend. What is this life.
First up? A natter with the exceptionally attractive Liverpudlian funk trio, All We Are, before their show at Aloft Liverpool. If you have yet to discover them, it is time to turn your speakers up and hit the play button (above). Rumour has it, their modern pop-rock-disco vibes are destined for a show at this year’s Glastonbury…
Let’s say hello.
Lela London: You’ve been described most notoriously as ‘slinky indie funk’ – for those who haven’t heard your music yet, how would you describe your sound?
All We Are: It’s like you’re trapped in a wave and you get tossed and turned around. You don’t know what’s going to happen but when you’re safe back on shore, you had a great ride.
LL: Do you, in fact, get sick of people asking about ‘your sound’?
AWA: Not really, it’s actually pretty cool that we have a sound that people find hard to pin down. That means we’re just doing our thing.
LL: Some might say your ‘big break’ was touring with Stealing Sheep – what do you feel has been your actual breakthrough ‘wow moment’ to date?
AWA: We see our ‘breakthrough’ was when we self-released our first single Utmost Good. We felt we really found ourselves with that one.
LL: What are the 5 most important factors of your creative process?
AWA: Being in the praccie roome, our equipment, coffee, cans, and more cans.
LL: In your non-musical downtime, what is each of your personal guilty pleasures?
AWA: What do you mean non-musical? Haha that’s all we ever do.
LL: If you had to choose another musician (living or dead) to join the band, who would it be and why?
AWA: Andre 3000 would be amazing!
LL: And what does the rest of 2015 hold for All We Are?
AWA: Hopefully play loads of shows and festivals! (LL; said with incredible enthusiasm!)
Only a few days thereafter, the proud sponsors of Loose Women invited me for a chat with the show’s longest-running panelist, the wonderful Sherrie Hewson (not ignoring her roles in Emmerdale, Coronation Street, or Benidorm!). Major girlcrush.
I have included a blog-only question for you babes, below, but be sure to head over to the full interview to develop a girlcrush of your very own.
Lela London: You’re always looking stylish on set, do you like to select your own clothes for the show or happy to be styled?
Sherrie Hewson: For Loose Women we have a stylist, but I always have an opinion. I will always say no if I don’t think it’s my style. I’m not difficult, but I just know certain colours or styles don’t suit me. I especially like to wear suits and jackets, in particular though.
