Black is London’s favourite colour. From the Underground to the Gherkin, not one area I have ever been to (barring Somerset House during Fashion Week) has proved otherwise. For its easy and slimming wear, our city has adopted it as a rather drab sartorial preference.
That is not to say you can’t wear black well. Audrey Hepburn practically built a reputation on her little black dress in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Sadly, not all of us can afford couture dresses designed by Hubert de Givenchy, and that is where the ‘boring black’ begins.
The best way to wear black well? Wear the styles you love! We all know how I feel about Firetrap’s skinny jeans, so when I stumbled on the brand’s newgorgeous embroidered cardigan, black skinnies were an obvious pairing.
Because I happen to look like a vampire in all black, I broke the colour up with a gold-weaves tan dress, matching BCBG Max Azria sandals, and a rose-printed scarf.
