Shows like this are the reason my tears fall at night re: missing New York Fashion Week. With a live performance and original score by soulful John Forte setting the scene for her Spring 2010 collection, Nanette Lepore got inspired by watching fireworks over the Istanbul Strait and thus delivered luxe vacation-wear that seemed perfect attire for late-night dancing on the beach.
She opened her show with a short parade of vintage-style high-waist bikinis and proper one-pieces in neon coral and a vibrant floral pattern, thanks to a collaboration with Manhattan Beachwear. The rest of the presentation followed that cute, ladylike beat with numerous summer cocktail dresses (many built around a sweet wrap-around “apron skirt” silhouette). Also included were easy empire-waist evening dresses with flowing ruffles and volume, all in a pretty springtime palette of raspberry, tangerine, twig, moss, and watermelon accented by metallics. The accesories really wrapped it up into a bow with little chain-strap satchels from Nanette Lepore by Tab, and lavender and metallic pumps with block heels from Nanette Lepore by Tribeca Design footwear.
